WWire: Blue O founders of different minds on Adams

In its ongoing effort to get as much mileage as possible out of the Sam Adams saga, Willamette Week's blog is making note of the fact that the Blue Oregon founders don't entirely agree on Adams: Two of the three people who founded Oregon's top left-leaning political blog, Blue Oregon, are going to bat for Mayor Sam Adams. Last week, Kari Chisholm, who designs websites for Adams and many of the state's Democratic elected officials, posted a couple of times in Adams' favor. Nigel continues with Charlie Burr: Today, another Blue Oregon co-founder, Charlie Burr, a senior account rep for...

Willy Week: Gang officers are profiling in Portland

This morning I was reading the Willamette Week and my stomach turned in knots and not for the reasons that you think. Apparently, the Gang Enforcement Team at Portland's Police Bureau have mandated stopping Blacks on the streets without cause: Corno and Mahuna are part of “Operation Cool Down,” an effort by City Hall to halt escalating violence between the Crips and Bloods after a slaying in a North Portland church Dec. 12. Their new mission is straightforward: to contact the kind of people involved in the shootings and make a police presence felt. Corno is frank about who they’re...

Word on the street: Sam's staying

Sources who wish to remain anonymous are telling me with unequivocal certainty that embattled Portland Mayor Sam Adams is staying in his job. I consider these to be extremely reliable, well-connected sources. I don't think its going out on a limb to say that this is how its going to go down. No word yet on an official announcement. Update: 12:07: Offical announcements confirming Adams intends to stay should be hitting email boxes this afternoon. Update: 12:37 Willamette Week's blog has the scoop (literally) here.

Was it okay for Sam Adams to lie?

The Willamette Week is now reporting that Portland Mayor Sam Adams lied after all. He did have sex with Beau Breedlove back in 2005, the summer when Breedlove turned 18-years-old.Earlier, Adams had denied any sexual relationship with Breedlove, and the story transformed from one focused on Adams' judgment and possible criminal wrongdoing into one focused on the motives of Adams' accuser, Portland developer Bob Ball, and the tragedy of smear-filled politics. It turns out Ball was right. Not only did Adams lie, but he convinced Breedlove to lie as well. And he kept on lying right up until today, the start...
